Soft Rock Magazine Feature

This magazine cover and feature for the mock “Volume” music magazine focuses on the sub-genre of soft rock. The article by William Bois discusses the origins in Laurel Canyon and sounds from early ‘60s rock artists. I selected the classic typeface pairing ITC Avant Garde and ITC Lubalin that was introduced in the late 60s. Simplified guitar illustrations are used throughout to show the variety of instruments in soft rock music, both acoustic and electric. I chose to incorporate iconic album covers and photos of artists alongside colored doodles that reference the stylized guitars.
